The B+W maxima was stolen from Tropical Paradise in San Leandro, apparently they just lifted it out of the tank and drove off. Clams will do just fine out of the water for awhile.

Something here doesn't make sense to me. If your supplier took the package to FedEX, then wouldn't the package get scanned at drop off? :?: The tracking # shows up in the system minutes after scanning, you get a tracking number when you print the shipping label, it will not automatically show up in the system. I don't think someone can just remove a tracking number from their system, to assist with loss prevention.

i do not agree on this one. i dropped off a couple of packages at fed ex on saturday, they scanned the items into their system and issued me tracking numbers for each package then and there. i tried to track the packages throughout the weekend and a few times during the work day on monday only to receive an error. it wasn't until 6pm pst that the tracking numbers were valid in the fed ex online tracking system.

from my experience, it takes a while for the tracking number to register in their system.

FedEx says they have a record of the of the number, but the package was "never shipped" - whatever that means. John

I could be the package was scanned in at arrival, but there is no departure scan. They will scan a package again once it's put on the truck. Or as Green Mariner said, if the supplier prints their own labels, then they already have a tracking number, but it was never scanned in. Fedex would have a record of the tracking number if the shipper printed the label. My guess is it was never scanned in.

Somebody mentioned something about shippers marking boxes 'Live fish'. The last livestock I had shipped came in a box marked perishable. It came UPS and the driver saw the label and said 'You should put this in the refrigerator"

Who is the supplier? I wouldn't want to confuse them with the theif if they happen to get another in.

Fedex is not going to insure a package they don't have a tracking number for. So it's either the number isn't updated in the system yet (Fedex, IME, is very slow compared to UPS about updating these numbers for tracking purposes) or there is no insurance check coming. I hope it's the former.

Woah total overreaction here. Someone steal a Fedex package? Right. How do they know it had a $1000 fish in it. They just happened to be a marine aquarist? Unlikely. Fedex/DHL/Purolator/UPS loose packages all the time, that's what happens when you employ human beings (unfortunately none of you are perfect). I'm glad it was insured, I had Fedex break a 400w Ushio and refuse to pay me for it. But I would bet my next paycheck that the fish was not stolen. Chances are your fish is lying in a bag in a box under a pile of other boxes, dead. Sorry to say it.
