80 is much too hot. Would have to go swimming! Around 55 here today, a little breezy. Took the stunt kite out for a bit, almost broke a sweat! 8)

Well I posted my power outage in the Nano section but to keep a long story short... I lost power fri and finally just got it back a few hours ago. Everything in my tank died not for lack of trying. I did manage to get some of my corals to my LFS but all else is dead. My house got down to about 31 degrees over the last few days (made it very hard to sleep) and with school and work happening when the power went out I had no way to save everything. True I only have a 10 gallon but it still hurts. I spent alot of time and money while being on a tight budget. Being a college student I don't know how long it will take me to get going and I don't think I will have corals for a long, long time (they are to expensive at this point). Live and learn. The rebuilding process... well we'll see...

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Just take into consideration that sometimes you don't have the power to help. Just be proud that you did what you could.

I was thinking that if I ever had a power failure, I could simply run over to the local Home Depot and rent a generator. That was my ace in the hole. Then I got to thinking 8O that in a power failure, Home Depot would probably be closed for security and other reasons. Duuhhh. I still have to resolve this "what if" situation. Or maybe I'll just procrastinate a little longer...

And good luck renting a generator during an ice storm type situation. Hydro-Quebec here was paying 15$/hour to kids to just stand there and watch the generators for theft. People were selling them with 300-400% mark-ups.

If you live in the north you will have a long term power outage eventually, count on it. Despite my generator, inverter and woodstove I don't really have a plan for longer than a couple of days. Need to expand the run-time of my gen or get a bigger one....

Yes, we have to deal with 10 months of winter and some power outages but that’s a small price to live in such a great area.
It does look look like most of upstate is restored.

No floods, tornadoes or earth quakes.

And hey...we are the NCAA bball champs!!!!!

speaking of generators... i went by a honda equip dealer while on duty..

they have these honda generators called the super quiet series...

they are super quiet... the 2000w model went for about a grand... and was no louder than a normal conversation. it has a built in line conditioner....that means (true sign wave output) no clicking of powerheads and mag impeller pumps...) they have a neat "Eco-throttle" feature. the generator only runs to the right rpm to get the desired output. if you burn 100w it will run it for only 100w to extend the fuel life...

13hrs on the 1000w
15hrs on the 2000w
12hrs on the 3000w

i might just drop buy and get one.. they are light too.
