As far as the water parameters are good, mine pulse all the time. However, I notice a more vigerous pulsing during daytime (lights on).

Every piece of Xenia is different, even if they are the same clone in the same tank. However, generally speaking, they do pump less vigorously during the night, but if they have tons of ATP (energy) left over during the day, they will be pumping just as hard.
