I am putting stuff on GCFI's and whenever I touch, at all, my vho's they trip the GCFI.
Do they do this notoriously, or are my just wired goofy or salt creeped?
Do you guys keep your lights on GCFI? VHO's? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Have you checked the vho's wiring for corrosion
at the splices? A corroaded ground wire splice
might do it.

Believe Hillbilly correct. If it trips when you touch the housing it's because you're the path to ground which causes the inbalance. If the housing was grounded correctly you would find that the GFI would always trip. Either way there's a problem with the wiring.

Yep -- I'd bet its a bad ground. I'd check to make sure that the grounding wire doesn't just "dead-end" in the housing. Does it trip when you touch the ballast housing or the reflector?

No reflector, and no housing. Its a retro kit inside my canopy.

Righty, I have the same issues. I think it is salt creep personally.

I'm debating taking the VHO's off of the GFCI circuit because of this.

Once again, three years, no trippy. Everything is plugged into GFI outlets too.

Check to see that the ground and the neutral are correct in your wiring. If you have the ground connected where the neurtral should be, it may be just below the GFCI trip level. WHen you touch the reflector, you throw it out of whack.

Then, check your wirenuts, and make sure they're clean. Clean the cable ends if you need to (or just strip more cable) and replace the nuts if they're corroded.

How long has this problem been going on? could your GFCI just be wearing out?

I agree with bingo. Happens all the time at my store. Usually it's because it's saving my life. Corroded wires are the usual, but every once in awhile it's a ballast that someone had inproperly wired.
