With recent Michigan power outage. I decided to tear down my aquarium which was a 90 gallon reef tank. Some of my corals started to die so i took it down and traded all my live stock into the LFS. Of course i lost money on it. I traded in alot of nice acro's and other small polyps. So i decided to take the credit i could get and started plans on a new tank. I thought about going down in size from a 90 gallon.

Thoughts
50 gallon breeder or 40 gallon breeder, would really like a square bottom tank 24in 24in 18in cant find one though
400 watt 6500K MH
4 55W powercompacts actinic
Thought about putting recirculating loop about 1000GPH and turn over the sump at about 700GPH returned through a sea swirl.
I have a skimmer.
I was thinking about having a surge bucket so i was going to drill huge overflows.
I was going to build a refigium setup in the sump and hopefully grow mangroves. Just because tehy look cool.
Also deep sand bed.

Any thoughts or recomendations would be appreciated. I dont have tons of money so no Calcium reactor or anything. I have a kalkwasser reactor that works for me. Thanks

you could have the tank custom made. pet connection in livonia makes some very nice tanks i just picked one up for a customer a 36"x36"x36" it was very nice. i think your turn over rate might be a litle high in the sump for keeping a fuge. for mangroves. if you hooked it up seperately off to a side and had it fed with a "t" off one of your over flows then gravity drained it to your sump it might work better.

Just curious, why do you want to go with a smaller system?
