Long story short, my sump level got too low (one of my overflows didn't work and the tank was superfull while the sump was nearly dry).

My EuroReef pump doesn't work now! Damn!

Do I just need a new motor? Do I need a whole new pump? Since I have the impeller, can I get a new motor or pump cheaper than going through Euro-Reef directly?

Where should I get my replacement part(s)?

Please help. Much obliged.

Lemme go home and look at my replacement unit to see if any special attachements are needed ... I can't recall off the top of my head. But if not, then I see no reason why you can't just get a new Sedra pump and use the impeller.

Is the only difference the impellor? Let me know when you find out.

Would I need a new pump or just a new motor? Can the motor be replaced?

I'm pretty confident you'll need an entirely new pump. The motors are sealed within the pump housing and I don't see how you can just change the motor. I'll let you know tomorrow. What I'm afraid of is Euroreef modifies the Sedra in such a way that you'd need to buy it from them.

why does my euroreef skimmer overflow through the top. it bubbles up and the collection cup retains a lot of water and the bubbles keep going up and through the top and overflows. i need dry bubbles.

is the sump level too high? it is between 6-8 inches like the euroreef manual recommends.

it worked perfectly before. after i emptied out the cup and put it back on, it started doing this.

Teknopanda,

Probably would have been better to post this in your own thread instead of hijacking Mandarin's... :)

As far as the skimmer goes - sounds like it's not getting air. Stick the airline intake underwater for a couple of minutes and let the pump suck water through it to clear it out. If that doesn't work you might have something stuck in the venturi - try cleaning that next.

i didn't know there was such a thing, so please ignore my post everybody and only answer mandarin's question.

Heh ..... chris was just kidding :P I think what he might have meant to suggest is that you'd get better responses if you started a thread asking your specific question. But either way, you're more then welcomed to post your question here :)

Have you used epoxy or has anything spawned lately? That might be causing your skimmer's "over-performance"

Didn't mean to offend you Tekno - as Len said, it was just a joke. :)

Please let us know if any of the stuff suggested above solves the problem for you.

Ok, I'm home with the Sedra KSP-5000 6" in front of me and it looks like you'll need to buy it from Euro-reef because the output is modified to fit the skimmer. You know, if you wanted my spare unit, I'll sell it for 20% less then whatever Euroreef wants for theirs. Just email me. No point in having this thing just sit around and do nothing ;)

ok thanks guys. i thought it was some kind of really bad etiquette in discussion forums. i'm not really good with internet protocol and etiquette...like people that get really mad if you accidentally type in caps. what's up with that??

anyways i was going to check out the impeller but the problem seems to have fixed itself. my guess is the sump water level was too high? or whatever could have been jamming the pump got totally pulverized and no longer is jamming it up. it must not be the airline tubing because i didn't touch that and the skimmer is no longer overflowing the collection cup.

oh and i did not use any epoxy lately. the only odd thing that has happened that coincides with the skimmer overflowing is a nudibranch that died. farfetched cause, unless the nudi expelled gross amounts of "nudi-oil" or something disgusting to that end which mucked up the water and thus, the skimmer. =]

Tekno,

A nudi might be able to produce the wet foam you experienced. They really pack a wallop in terms of chemicals, and there's a good chance one or more were effective suffocants that causes excessively wet foaming. Or could've been as you described: a clogged venturi. I completely forgot about this, and was thinking more in line with excessively wet foam and not water overflowing.

Glad it worked out for ya!
