Skimmer goes crazy at night

What causes a protien skimmer that produces a nice dry foam during the day to kick into high gear over night an fill the collection cup with water?

This does not happen evvery night but often enough to be a nusiance.

Does this happen all the time, or irregularly? Most species spawn when lights go out, and this can really make skimmers go nuts.

It occurs several times a week at least. The tank inhabitants are 3 green chromis, 2 3 spot damsels, 3 false clowns, 2 fire gobys and 1 royal gramma. Tank & sump volume is about 325 gal. The skimmer is an aerofoamer. Thank goodness for the auto shut off collection cup. I can't imagine running a skimmer like this without one.

That was my guess too.

Also if your feeding in the evening, your skimmer will shut down for a while, then it can go into overdrive as the food starts to decompose.
