I got two fighting chonchs this morning that were 'dry shipped', no water, just wet paper in the bag. The vendor's instructions say just throw them in the tank. I don't really want to do that. Any suggestions?

The problem is that there is nothing better you can do other than throw it in the tank, as the vendor suggested. Any delay probably will do slightly more harm than what already did.
What I do, is I place the snails right above the waterline on the glass. I just hold them there and they reach out and stick on. Then they crawl down into the water as they please.
I don't know if this helps or not but I figure letting the snail choose how quickly it want's to immerse itself is a nice idea.
