Hi All,

Bit the bullet and picked up an AquaC HOT instead of the BakPak.
It has been bretty good at pulling gunk out of my water. However, even when I vary the height of the cup, I can't quite seem to get it to produce dry or semidry skimmate.
I have cleaned the cup assembly several times, and find the 'column' gets coated with a greenish gunk. From the instructions I guess the assembly should be cleaned often, however if I completely clean the entire assembly, am I somehow making the skimmer break-in again?

I'm not sure how much gunk should be pulled out of my tank.
It is a 29g reef with LR and DSB, a 2 med BTA's, 2 med cleaner shrimp, a med clown, damsel and scooter blenny, several colonies of button polyps, 2 med Kenyan trees with about 8 small frags, and maybe 60 mushrooms.

The only thing I haven't done is pull out that little screw plug, and clean inside the intake chamber.

Is it possible it has simply cleaned my tank, and there isn't much daily waste to pull?

It sounds fine. Don't clean all the gunk out of tube. Look in center section w/pump on. If it's good and bubbly, injector is ok. In my 75 I get a 1/4" of thick green skim couple times a week tank looks great. Remember patience don't try to over fix it. later

AquaC has an drain attachment so the collection cup does not need to be removed to empty out. It will stay at your setting and produce the dryness you desired longer. However, if you make the skimmate too dry, the column tend to accumulate thicker gunk and inhibits the performance of the skimmer.

Hey thanks to both of you. I will raise it a little bit, and simply let it run for a while without 'fussing' with it.

Thanks again.
