I honestly don't know their lifespan, but mine hermits never last very long (2 years or so tops). Snails have gone on much longer, although I'm done to about a dozen from my initial population of ~50. I don't rely on these critters to last very long, unfortunately. Fish and corals seem to go on forever (especially corals) but many of the other inverts I've kept don't have the same longevity.

I don't know either, but I'll relate my experience.

I started with a group of about 10 hermits 5 years ago, and I'm now down to two. They seemed to die off gradually, but I don't know why (age, agression, etc.).

I have a similar, maybe slightly worse, track record for snails. I have a handful that are over five years old, but for the most part I'd guess they die after a couple of years.

I still have most of 10 scarlets after 3 years. I still have quite a few of my original snails too. And 3 brittles stars as well.
