I have had more problems with this thing and water flowing through it. Yet again, there is **** collecting at the top of my water. This time though i can tell that the water has not in fact stoped flowing through it becuase the water level in the exit chamber is lower than the rest of the water. I did what was recommended last time and took out the tube in the last chamber and this is working much better. But i still am now noticeing an accumilation of **** at the top of the water column.

Why worry about it? You should see the water in the 40 gallon refugium on our 220 gal system. There are oily films, cyanyobacteria, various other algaes, etc. The little critters in there love it and breed like crazy.

Remember, a properly setup refugium is a nutrient-rich sewer. I'd be more concerned if there wasn't any crap on the water.

Our CPR is getting the same sludge on top. I'm not complaining though, our hair algea is gone and the spaghetti macro is growing like crazy.

I have the same thing on both my ecosystem fuge and a cpr fuge. If the water is still moving I don't think it's a big deal. You can try newpaper to get the film off the top if it bothers you - I just collect the gunk when I harvest algae once a month.
