MACNA XV - Coral Propagation Workshop!!

In keeping with our theme for the upcoming MACNA "Propagating The Hobby", there will be a special workshop on coral propagation. The workshop will be FREE to all three-day attendees.

In the workshop we will be discussing the various techniques for attaching corals, focusing on soft corals to provide a "hands-on" experience. Everyone will be free to take their newly propagated species home with them. We will have special bags and oxygen tanks to give the "new-born propagated critters" the best chance of making to your home reef tanks.

Any word on how the workshop went?

I thought the setup was great! They had a video camera hooked up to the projector, so you didn't have to look over his shoulder to see what he was doing. There was HUGE attendance.

And the great thing is that Anthony Calfo will also be teaching a coral propagation class for MACO in 2004.

Personally I thought it was like a bunch of guys running around with scalpels and razor blades trying to get free frags. Not much hands on teaching. Just (me sitting right next to anthony) a close up and talk thru of fragging by him and then it was a free for all. I thought his techniques were awesome and the man was one of the most friendly and socialble people you'll meet. Very cool though too bad those hungry reefers couldn't sit down and wait like patient folks should do.

My wife does all of the fragging in our house. She is great at it! She attended the workshop and helped others with their fragging. We managed to get a couple of nice frags of things that we didn't have. My wife thought it was a nice workshop for people who are new to coral propagation. I don't think she learned any new tricks though.
