Recently I have noticed several things swimming in one of our tanks that I am assuming are hydroids. The best way to describe them is to say that they look like free swimming helicopter rotors. So.. that being said, are they harmful, should I attempt to get rid of them or should I just enjoy these little free swimming helicopters?

I could be wrong, but I thought hydroids were benthic. I do know that they can pack a helluva sting, though.

they appeared in one of the tanks a few years ago, and after three days, they disappeared and never to be seen again...

I've got a ton of 'em and would like to deal with them ASAP.

Any ideas (aside from kalking them which is extremely difficult as they typically eminate from inside holes that are tough to get a hypo into)?
