MH/PC pendant for 29g

I just bought an AGA 29g (30x12x18 ) this past weekend (upgrade from my 12g). I'd like to keep SPS, clams, and some softies so I've been looking at the MH options. It seems from reading through the forums that a 175W MH/PC pendant would be a good choice and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on Manufacturer/model. I was considering the CSL prism pendant, but it's only 17.5" long and my tank is 30" long. It seems this would prevent a nice uniform distribution of light. Would this be a good or bad thing? Any other recommendations/opinions? Thanks much for any feedback.

I would sugget taking a look at Hamilton Lighting. I have a 20L same size at your tank just not as deep. My fixture is 24" and my fixture covers the entire tank with no dark areas. http://www.hamiltontechnology.com

I'd recommend the 175 Watt in 10000K or 14000K. The 14000K might be on the blue side. I have the 250 Watt, Matt Black pendant, 10000K and I love it.

Here is a tip: I found two places on the web (other than Hamilton) that sold MH pendants. Turned out that they just take your order, order from Hamilton themselves and raise the price. This will of course increase your order shipping time too.

If you want a MH pendant...go with Hamilton direct. I would call to order and make sure they understand just what you want as the upgrades can get messed up on you via the web page.

Ditto on the hamilton suggestion. I have a hamilton (ushio) 175W 10k with two 55W in pfo parallel reflector on a 20 gallon and absolutely love the color. I order this bulb from hamilton, not in a retrofit, but I will be replacing these with more of the same.

I was planning on getting the 24" hood and hanging it as a pendant. Is anyone else doing this or do those with the fixtures just place them on the tank (heat?) ?

Hang it But if you are going to go to all the trouble of hanging it, why don't you just go with two pendants? It might add up to being a bit more 'spensive, but not by very much.

If you like the look of the hood, why not go with the double reefstar? It comes ready to hang. They are 33" long, a tad longer than your tank, but not by much, if you don't mind the difference.
