Hi all!

3 hours later and I still haven't found what I was looking for on Yahoo. :?: Maybe you guys can help me out.

I'm looking for a cheap electronic ballast that will run 2-110W (4ft.) VHO lamps. The IceCaps are WAY out of my budget. Any help will be great! :)

Hi jonovan, welcome to reefs.org. I can't help you with a cheap source of ballasts (have you tried any of the sponsors here, or Inland Aquatics, maybe?), but I'll sure give you a bump!

Hey Chris.. this has been the cheapest I've seen so far but are you sure they run 2-110w VHOs. I followed your link and it only mentioned powering the PCs.

This is a standard, instant-start, electronic, fluorescent ballast made by Advance. It's intended to be used with two fluorescent lamps up to 110 watts each (thus the part number REL-2S110).

Here's the manufacturer's spec. sheet:

while i was calling around for the fulham ballast, an employee mentioned they had Advance (brand) ballast that would run my two 110W VHOs.. only $16.

Is this a good ballast? Good as in it won't burn out my bulbs prematurely.

Thanks for all your help.

Advance has been around since the 1940s and is probably the largest manufacturer of fluorescent and HID lighting ballasts in the country, so, no worries there - good ballasts IME/IMO.

The Fulham ballasts have an excellent reputation too. Never used one myself, but for $36 I'd certainly give it a try!:) That's dirt-cheap for a good, electronic VHO ballast...

What model Advance ballast did you find for $16? I've never seen the REL-2S110 model for much under $60. I'm guessing the one you're talking about is magnetic. Magnetic ballasts are cheaper, but they run hotter, are much heavier, and consume more power.

FWIW, the WH7 sounds like a great deal...

You caould also look at this one. I do not know of a online rep, but they are generally resonably priced.

Thanks too Wazzel. I called a dealer in my city and they said the Workhorse 7 is only $36! I'm sold. Now a little help on the wiring...

Got me. I do not have one of these, but have heard good things about them.

Too good to be true (model REL-2S110).. I went to that store today and they said that it was a misunderstanding. :( They didn't even carry that model.

I guess I'll be buying the Fulham then. Thanks a lot guys for all your help.
