Dying torch head

Last night when I looked over to my tank I noticed that one of the heads of my 2 head torch coral was receded and emitting 2-3 mucus strings. I've done a search on the forums and it seems like the head is dying. I'll give it the smell check to be sure. If so, is the whole torch trashed or can I save the remaining head by removing the dead one? How would I go about safely removing the dead head? Thanks for any help.

First of all...........relax. My torch does that every once in awhile and it hasn't died yet. You really know it's dieing when the actual tentacle/arms start to waste away into slime. And if it is dieing then break off the polyps that are effected and hope the other ones don't get what they got.

investigator1, you're correct. It looks like my torch has recovered. This morning, the head ?ooked perfectly fine. What a relief. I had thought that my bubble might have attacked and killed it. They're about 4-5" apart though. Couldn't think of another reason why the head would recede. My water parameters were fine and I've had it for about 5 weeks. I'm glad things are ok though. Live and learn. Thanks much.
