As long as people are creating nice reefs relatively easily, which we are, I would expect the rate of innovation to drop off somewhat. But I don't think lack of technological advances necessarily implies stagnation. I like to garden, and the techniques I use probably were in use hundreds of years ago.

I don't think I heard the term "closed-loop" more than a year ago, so thats fairly new, and I think we are now in the process of working out appropriate velocity/volume/coverage issues in water movement.

Breeding marine fish and husbandry of some difficult corals are big challenges still remaining...
