Will an atlantic anemone do ok as a host for false percs? Also they are a bit small still !! About 25 days old... Will they become anemone food? Thanks..
Altantic anemones has no natural hosting clowns, but that doesn't mean false percs won't take up a home in one in captivity. I have seen f. percs in pretty much all types of anemones in captivity.
About the clownfish sizes. Hmmm, I am not sure. I expect they will go in on their own when they are really. So, in my opinion, you don't have to worry about the anemone grabbling up the clownfish. But thats just a guess on my part.
A long long time ago in a city far far away (nice intro huh?).....
I had a Condylactus Anemone that was host to a Maroon Clown. She loved that Condy and would feed it before she would eat. The only problem I had was that the Condy had a bad habit of wandering and ended up as puree in a new powerhead I had added at the time. It seems the Anemone decided to attach to the intake screen and slowly got sucked in. By the time I got home it was just half a foot and a couple of tentacles that my Maroon Clown was trying to swim in.
I'll make a side note here and say that the anemone wandered previously to the addition of the Clown. So, I don't believe the anemone was bothered by the fish. It was always inflated except after a big meal.
I really believe that matching up Clowns and Anemones in captivity is really a crap shoot. I wouldn't go as far as saying cruel though. If the Clowns don't like it they won't host.
