Today I have installed my new streams and would like to let everyone know my opinion on this product. First on thier ability to produce current is just as advertised its a wide stream with lots of force, but will not produce the direct stream of a traditional powerhead so they do not damage corals from the thrust. I have acros just inches from the output and they show no signs of distress. When aI started them detritus that has been hiding in the corners came out in a cloud it was pretty impressive. Now for the streams themselves....they are kinda big at least for my taste I'm used to externals where I can just see a tube in the water. Attaching them to my tank,"All-Glass 120 4X2X" was not hard but I am modifying the existing mount kit the 3000.224 because I do not trust the way they hang for the long term. Larger than a Hagan 802 But the output is of no comparison the stream is the hands down winner by far.

Are the mounts/propellers directional or do they need to be placed perpindicular to your intended flow?

Davefish,

Which models did you get? If you are using the electronic ones - which type of controller are you using (single or multi)? Do you like them (meaning the controllers)?

I've seen these units in action a couple of times now and I'm really impressed with them. I can't believe how little energy they use for the flow they produce.

BTW - Welcome to Reefs.Org!! :)

I have the 6060 no controller I just run them on a wave maker and let them rip!!

Dave,

The word from Tunze is that these units should not be used on a wavemaker as it can damage them. Apparently, they should not be turned on/off more frequently than once per hour.

You might be better off putting them on digital/programmable timers or something...

Chris is right on the on/off situation- I wouldn't put them on a wavemaker. Mine goes off for a while at night-but runs all the time otherwise. I had to put a flow reducer on an opposing Gemini powerhead, as they would generate a standing wave that washed over the center brace! Stream is a real nice pump; is a bit big though.

Just got a 6000 with the controller last week. They have several options for mounting it but the supplied hardware seems more geared towards euro style tanks. Oceanic owners may need to get an accessory kit or tweak the supplied hardware to make it fit. The pump head itself does ratchet/move so you could angle it out from a corner but it is big, and there is only so much leeway you have.

How do I like it? Wunderbar!!! Amazing piece of equipment. I am still getting some sand and such blown about (75 oceanic reef ready) bit it's settled down for he most part. I had 4 maxijet 1200s on a wavemaster, took one off for now. My fish really seem to like the added current and I see them playing in it. My corals shrank a bit the first day or two but now are open back up as big as ever and overall the tank just seems 'healthier' I know that sounds subjective but that's the best wayi can describe it. The Tunze USA distributor also owns the premeir LFS in town and was nice enough to answer my questions about it. If you want to know more about them check out the Tunze forum on reefcentral - Roger Vitko is the USA rep and his knowledge of the product is staggeringly complete and very useful.
