i have seen both the predator and the excalibur and the predator looks like a standard beckett skimmer. it works pretty good to me and seems affordable for the skimming you get but the quality doesnt look as nice as some of the bigger brands. i think it is a small company that makes them for champion but i dont know for sure.

excalibur (if we are talking about the same one) wasnt a great skimmer. it looks underpowered and undersized and i dont think it compares with any of the big skimmers.

i am shopping for a skimmer now too and euroreef seems to be the winner according to most everyone here. i wanted a beckett like bullets but the cost with pump is too much. it eats a lot of electrcity too so people tell me.

Hey Ryan,
I'd really just get the Euroreef or some other high quality skimmer. I've known too many people who decide to upgrade skimmers by saving a few bucks initially; this always ends up costin more. I promise you with a high quality skimmer such as a Euroreef, it'll be buy once and never look back :)

yep..i agree..why waste good money on fish and corals with a so so skimmer. Either way you will spend the price difference..so either spend it now on the Euro-reef, or spend it later replacing the fish and corals that die due to poor water quality.

I have the Excalibur running on my 90 gallon. It works well for a hang on if the pump is clean, but the pump has this stupid design that you can't put a strainer on it, and it gets clogged constantly. I think it's a Rio pump.

I'm going to try the ASM skimmer. Its exactly the same as a euroreef. Granted its not as high quality construction. but for something that's just going to sit in my sump I'm not overly concerned and it is cheaper.

Here's a pic of my ASM. Works great so far -- we'll see how it holds up over time.

When I see pics of skimmers the skimmate looks nothing like what I get in mine. I see brown or very light colored "tea" or even "mt dew" colored skimmate.

Im told you cant really judge anything by the color of the skimmate or the amount of it.

However, my prism pro pulls out dark green pure crap stuff that smells like...well crap.

I am so glad that stuff comes out and doesnt stay in the tank but its interesting how much this varies from skimmer to skimmer and from tank to tank.
