Also known as Southdown Fluff.

Drained my tank down (I had mixed water flowing for a week with just live rock and some sand in my sump) into several garbage cans...Laid the Southdown on the bottom and covered it with plexiglass and slowly added the water...it didn't cloud up at first...but then it started...within a few minutes milk...then the fluff started...first in the overflow...then in my sump...then it started in the skimmer...my skimmer which had been pulling out a little junk here and there went nuts...tank is still cloudy a little...not too bad a day later...getting clearer as the hours go by...wife got a good laugh at the white fluff ring around my arm from moving the sand around a litte.

Anyone else have this happen with Southdown?

all new aragonite sand will do that.

Well the Agramax I laid down in my 125 a couple of years ago didn't do that, sure it clouded a little...but I didn't get the Fluff like I did with the Southdown.

I had the same thing happen to me, only the sand was in a trash can. It fluffed non-stop until I had done three 100% water changes.

This was in the trash can while it was being quarantined.
