Okay, so my I picked up the fish while my wife was in switzerland (stupid business trip); she gets home and asks what his name is. He's been in the tank for just over a week, is super friendly and outgoing, and is eating like a horse, so I guess it's time to adorn him with a moniker. He's a gorgeous Harlequin Tusk, I'm pretty sure Australian, about 7-8". So what do you think for a name??

wow, BEAUTIFUL individual you picked up there! 8O congrats on that purchase!! what you feed him? It was my understanding that with Triggers you need to feed them food that's kinda hard to wear down their teeth, you hear the same for your tusk?

The tusk being a type of wrasse, he'll take just about anything (he certainly 'took' my brittle star about 10 minutes after he went into the tank! 8O :? ). Mostly he's been getting diced prawn shrimp with a mixture of 3 different types of pelletized food. I'll throw in some mussels and squid every now and then, and may start dosing with selcon if I notice his color fading at all.

From what I know, it's puffers that need their teeth worn down. Several years ago I saw a brown dogface puffer that had been in an LFS display tank for years; they never gave him much hard stuff to chew on, and his teeth had grown together so wide open there was a gap of only a few millimeters. Sad!

What's great about the tusk is even with that fearsome visage, he's a very mild-tempered fish. He'll back away from a piece of shrimp if my 5" female maroon clown comes swooping in after it.

Being of the harlequin inclination, a name such as "Madame" seems appropriate. ;)

He looks like an Elton or a Liberacce. Call him Mercury, after Freddy!

Eh, it was suggested as something like Cartman naming his stuffed frog "Clyde" (remember Clyde Frog from the episode where the boys send in a video to America's Funniest Home Videos of Cartman having a tea party with all his stuffed animals) -- something completely off the wall. :P
