I've had a snowflake jump out of the tank years ago
At least I think it jumped out (never found it)
A mesh screen around the edges of the tank will
keep them from getting out

Ribbon eels are best left in the wild, the rarley eat
(much like spotted stingrays and cleaner wrasses)

Morray's make great pets, they soon learn to trust you and
become curious and always out to greet you

as far as them eating other fish, they have bad eye-sight,
and if you provide an easier meal, they probably won't go
after fish in the tank.

100-200$ is on the low end for an eel. I've seen ones in my LFS run for 500$! I think that was a golden one.

I bought my Snowfake for $25.

Snowflakes go about 40$ canadian (30us) around here... The last few I've seen have been TINY. My avatar by the way, Darkangel, is from the Misfits. I think I'm going to change it again , though, as it's a little too close to my good friend Bangbang's. I already can't keep shrimp because of my flamehawk so I still may get one someday if I can figure out how to escape proof my tank. Any pics LFS or anyone else?

Here's a thread showing a pic (by my other good friend Greg  ) of an "eel-proofed tank" unfortunately this would not work with my set-up.

I have an eel that i bought about almost a year ago. He is about a foot long and the width of a pencil. He looks like an earthworm. He is pink like you can see through his skin. He looks pink with like a white pearl to it. Not very colorful. He lives in the sand and only pokes his head out when i feed. I have not seen him in a couple of months but this is normal. For a while I thought he was dead but when I moved the tank i found him still in the sand. Fun to watch and kinda cool when you get to see him. it is like a treat, if you will. The lfs did not know what kind of eel he was. paid $20 for him. If i can ever get any pics i will post them.

Sounds like a garden eel. I have 3 for a couple of years now. They are cool, but shy, and need a dsb. On the plus they are inexpensive, and wont eat your tank inhabitants.

The snowflake I almost bought at my LFS was $30. 8O At least half the price of other wildlife in there.

As far as escape proofing the tank,
My water level is about 3" below the top of the tank.
I have a canopy that tightly fits 3 sides,
and the back of the canopy has a screen stapled to it.

No escaping on out of my tank.

No pics ad well though.
