Guys I have a ghetto question.
Can I use a 8" fan and a under powered chiller (1/15 HP from Current) to chill a 58g + 20g sump running 2 150mh ?

Both chiller and fan(s) will be connected to a Ranco.

Thanks for any helpful input on this ghetto idea, I just need something to get me by this Summer.

Try a room air conditioner on a timer. Set it to 80 degrees and have it turn on around noon. Run your halides from noon till 8pm.

I thought of that, but I can't leave the a/c on a timer, I'm a little nervous about that idea only because I'll be going away for 15 days this summer (in the heat of July).

(of course a reef sitter will check in on it every other day or so.)

Chillers are best if they are not in the same room as the tank. They are capable of raising room temps 3 to 5 degrees. Since you are undersizing the chiller, you may almost be counter productive. Can you vent the chiller outside? That would help and your paln would be fine (the fan will help you alot.)
Normally, I would tell you to set your A/C a on a thermostat (most new models come that way) and set your fans on the Ranco. This option is actually better than a chiller for most people. An A/C helps dehumidify the air, which make evaporative cooling much more effective. I would set my A/C to 78 degrees and my fans at your desired tank temp for the time I'm away. Going ghetto on a chiller isn't worth it.
If your A/C doesn't have a digital temperature read out, you'll have a couple of hot days in June to dial it in before you go away.

I'll take care of everything Sharn! :D I do a combination of room AC, chiller, and fans. It's not easy either way you look at it but I guess thats the price I have to pay. There are moments in the day when everything is all on at the same time. Chiller on the right side of my head AC blasting the left. I know I am wasting a ton of electricity. I really wish there was a way I could vent my chiller to the outside. That would solve a lot of problems.
