I finally got a tank to grow my percs, the tank is missing the lower black trim in a few spots. I figured I'd finish removing the black trim (since it's damaged anyways) and it would also make the tank flush and I wouldn't need to put foam underneath to level the tank.

Do you think it would hold back the water pressure without that trim? Is that trim really necessary? The silicone is in great shape by the way...

I will water test it tomm, if i see no leaks should it be okay? Thanks

I have a 25 gallon that the trim just fell off, so I left it off. Has been in use for almost 3 years with no problem.

I too, have had the trim just fall off tanks, I think it is just decorative.

Of course I could be wrong and that tank could be a ticking time bomb! 8O

The trim on tanks is purely decorative. I have seen center braces built into the molding, but the bottom one is there just to hide the edges and silicone. Don't worry about it, unless of course the silicone is very old.
