..but if you slay yourself with a rusty sword, you have to get a shot too...

I think there's just as much of a chance of losing fish if you put just two vs. four. They are just as likely to fight, and then you end up with one established fish, needing to add another to form a pair. Then it's even more likely that the newcomer won't be able to compete.

Yes, carpet anemones are natural hosts in nature, and you're right about them being hard to keep. I've just seen clowns go more quickly towards anything with long tentacles. I didn't mean LT anemones (Macrodactyla doreensis) but long tentacles in general.

Chip, Chip, Chip. Excellent point on the tetanus shot...if only we had more constructive suggestions like that, we would have more babies! More babies means less taken from the wild. I just don't think you are appreciated in your own time. A tragic yet common occurrence.

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree here. I've never had a problem adding two ocellaris (Honestly I've never paired percs but they seem behaviorally almost identical) together, even adding an undifferentiated juvenile to an established female. If anything, this speeds up the pairing, as there is no quibble as to who will be the boss.

Fightin' werds, eh? Them's my specialty. Wait, this is getting TOO heated. Perhaps we should retire to a PM to continue the hostilities.

By the way, what specifically makes you a former marsupial? Just wondering if I qualify as well. :P

Okay here's another question as my fish keep their mating ritual going. I purchased the two recs from the same tank, what if they were from the same parents? Will this screw up breeding?

Depending on how your LFS does things, it's unlikely that they are from the same brood. But, even if they are, I doubt it will mess up anything, especially in the first generation. Chronic inbreeding would produce some abnormalities, but I would imagine it happens all the time in nature and even in the captive breeding programs. I doubt if they take the time to make sure the fish are all separated according to their parents. How would they mark them?? 8O What a job.

I think you'll be fine. If they're willing to mate, they know better than us...that's my philosophy! But I've been wrong before....just ask Matt the Marsupial!
