OK he says its a 20 gallon tank. Below is an attached pic of it. He says with stand and tank its 45" tall and the tank is 35" accross and 25" deep. Is it a 20 gallon like he says? I cn't find any tank with those same dimensions and he didn't mention the height of the tank but from the picture I think its a 30 gallon and not a 20. What do you think?

Definitely more than 20 gallons, unless those are centimeters, not inches. Tank volume = Height (in inches) X Width (in inches) X Depth (in inches) divided by 231. That tank looks about 12" tall or so from the pic, which would make it around 45 gallons. If it was measured in cm it's about 18 gallons.

Yup, unless the tank is under 6 inches front to back, it's more then 20 gallons :P Those dimensions remind me of something closer to a 60 gallon tall.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. I hope its not centimeters lol. The guy is local and if everything goes well i'll get it for 50 bucks. It will be a nice start to a reef. I emailed him for some answers, he is in the us so I hope its inches unless the metric system is taking over.

Welcome to reefs.org, EDK!

With the help of everyone in the forum here, you'll have a kickass tank for certain! Nice deal on the tank, too...all for $50? Amazing...

Reverse calculation:

231*20(gal) = 4620

4620 / 34 / 24 = 5.66

(I assume inside dimension is a bit smaller than his measurements.)

----------------------------------------------------

So, unless the tank is 6 inches tall, otherwise it's definetly much bigger than 20Gal.

So if he says it's 20Gal, and is only asking for the price of a 20Gal, then get it.

Make sure he agrees to refunding partially if the tank ends up with leaks.

Hmmmm, maybe there is a hole 6" up from the bottom..........that's why the tank would only hold 20Gal...........

Another possibility, the tank is a reptile tank, and may not built to withstand water pressure if you fill it more then half way up.

Or maybe not..............
