My condolences Minh, what a huge loss. I hope you will start a new system and stick around here, your posts are among the most informative on RDO.

The only thing I can think of to say is...ouch!

Man, you must feel terrible.

Stuff happens, and whatever you do, don't leave the hobby!

Over 35 fish gone? Wow...

Sorry to hear it Minh. Give us some pictures as you rebuild. Some of us have never seen top-off and kalk adding systems. Would be interested in seeing how they are set up. Pictures of sumps and recirculation would be cool too.

Hi,
I am new here but wanted to express how sorry I am for
your losses. I experienced the same end result in my tank
about 3 weeks ago. All fish but one ..gone, all inverts and
alot of corals as well. It seems like all is lost, but we just
can't stay down long.

It does get better.

Welcome to reefs.org Fantasy Reef Just in case nobody has said it yet. 8)

Sorry to hear about your losses also. Hope you have sorted out whatever caused it.

Minh I absolutely can not believe it. Your giant system? Bro I just lost a good portion of my reefs three weeks ago during an AC outage, I was mentally damaged to say the least. Re-stocking a pico reef only takes another hundred bucks and some time to let the SPS regrow--I have nothing to really complain about. I remember in your posts you mentioning the life span of your various clams--some you have had for over five years? I really don't know how you are dealing with the loss of a system that size. All I can say is, if its going to be thrust upon you well at least you can make improvements that you always wanted to have in the first setup. In mine, there were places where the LR structure wasnt very sound and I was able to fix that with the re-stocking, and as you already know you will be able to guage the long-term stabilities of your setup in terms of flora and fauna... you will know more about the intricacies of your system better now and that will aid in your new system design.

The second time around always ends up with a better system/ Really sorry. I was shocked when I read this it was a terrible flashback.

Small consolation, but at the very least you know exactly why it happened (other than the issue with the skimmer), rather than trying to solve a mystery.

There has only been one time in my life when I cried over fish. I'd had a lovely group of koi I'd painstakingly gathered together over two years (including, I kid you not a perfect, BLUE doitsu) in an above-ground pool I had set up on our porch. Memorial weekend was a hell weekend, the temperature NEVER went below 100F (yes, including overnight), peaking during the daytime around 120F-123F. Sunday morning I woke up to find each and every one of my animals floating belly up. I stopped keeping fish for a few months after that, I was so heartbroken.

I really hope you do not become discouraged.

Minh,

I am absolutely speechless. You had some of the most stunning clams I have seen, and I am very saddened by your loss.

Mihn, i feel soo bad for you.
My only advice is to learn from that and don´t let this put you down. You´re one of the most experienced reefers in here.
Good luck on everything.

Mihn, time to get the wallet rolling and get prepared for the next 1200gal system.

90% of people that have come to this board end up with bigger and better system after disaster like this. I know you will pick them right up by this time next year.

Minh, I am very sad for you. I know exactly how it feels. I had a disaster about 18 months ago in which a small temporary cannister filter failed and dumped 600g onto my mahogany floor overnight. I also lost virtually everything. I also thought that my tank and plumbing systems were well thought out. Unfortunatlely, we can never think of everything! Just look at NASA.
