Anyone keeping "non reef safe" triggers in their r

Ok, I came across a post while doing a search by a fellow (Tony Quinn) who has been keeping a picasso trigger in with various corals, both SPS and soft, with out problems for a long time. He says they don't even displace his sand and rock.
Any other daredevils out there. I'm thinking of taking a chance with a small picasso.
Before anyone starts the rant, I've been keeping fish for 20 years, and reefs for 10, so I'm fully aware of the "common wisdom," and fully aware of the known reef safe triggers. A niger was going to be the next addition to my new in-wall 150 gallon reef.
What I want is to see if anyone is taking some unusual chances and having it pay off. My new SPS tank is going to have some non traditional reef fish, and already houses a young imperator angel.

FWIW I have a Picasso Trigger in my reef tank. I've got SPS LPS and softies along with cleaner shrimp, a BTA and various other inverts. So far so good. I do keep him very well fed though Another friend of mine is having so so success with his Niger Trigger. I sa so so because he is missing part of his arrow crab 8O

I think the key is getting them small and keeping them occupied with food. I also NEVER feed live foods. Mostly chopped shrimp soaked in vitamins. I wouldn't want to give him any ideas

The owner of one of the aquariums featured in Michael Paletta's new book "Ultimate Marine Aquariums" is (or was) keeping a clown trigger in his 120 gal reef aquarium. I'd be curious to learn if that gentleman is still keeping that trigger in his reef or if problems developed as the fish got larger. Besides the potential for destructive behavior, triggers eat a ton and produce alot of waste which can obviously negatively impact on water quality. A really strong skimmer would be well advised. FWIW, I kept a clown trigger several years ago in a 180 gal fish only system. Contrary to reputation, the clown trigger was very docile, never bothered any of his tankmates nor rearranged the aquascaping. I converted that aquarium to a reef and had to trade him in but I still miss that fish! He was like a puppy dog.

I keep a Niger trigger in my 90 gallon reef. Leathers, softies, and LPS corals. When I first put him in he went and took a bite of a mushroom, by his reaction I think it tasted terrible, and he other than that one time I have not had a problem.

Thanks. Nigers are a given as far as being reef safe though. I was looking for people living "on the edge" Anyway, I purchased a small niger today at lunch. I'm not going to take a foolish chance on a picasso.

You made a good choice. I must say that of you live on the edge you will fall off once and awhile. I do not recommend it with fish keeping. It will cost you in the long run. I often live on the edge.....its my lifestyle. I messed with Rattlers during my younger days till I almost got nailed by a Eastern Diamondback in Florida. It actually brushed my arm. I lost my nerve and never did it again.LOL....aw heck.thats a lie.......I am looking into getting my first Cobra when I set up my Snake Room.

I still pick up rattlesnakes, westerns. - 8O I seem to find myself saving them from idiots who don't know what to do when they come across one on the trail. There are tons of them where I ride my dirtbike, and tons more where I spend time hiking. I'm a reptile person too, so they don't bug me. The only thing I wouldn't want to hande are the mambas - scary!! 8O
Monitors are my main interest in that area though.

Oh yeh!......No Mambas for me! I would like to breed some Copperheads. Have you ever kept tarantulas? They are so cool! I had a Usambra that was real mean. Gave me chills everytime I had to feed him.LOL
