I recently recieved a green fox coral as a gift and it didn't look very healthy. All the polyps were contracted and 3/4 of them were completley missing. Two weeks later, the surviving polyps have opened up quite nicely. My question is will the missing polyps grow back? What can I do to help it recover.

TIA

Glad to hear it's recovering. Yes, the coral will start laying down new tissue and skeleton. It might not do so over the dead portion, but it'll grow out in a fashion as to make it a complete coral head in due time. Fox corals are one of the slower growing corals so expect no less then a year to see good growth. Maintain pH, alk and Ca levels up at natural seawater levels. Aside from keeping the water condition optimal, there's not much you can do to encourage its growth. Fox corals don't take foods (at least none I've kept would). Good luck and let us know how it goes. I recommend taking pics as it's hard to tell when corals grow if you're watching them on a daily basis :P

Len,
Thanks for the info. I placed the fox coral on the sand directly beside one of my rocks. Should I move it away from the rock so that it has room to grow?
