Sorry, I can't answer your acrylic question but i personally prefer a black background. It provides a sharp contrasting effect with your livestock. It is also better because you don't notice the algae growing on it as much.

I don't know how a black background can decrease the amount of algae, since the major light source is inside the tank, not outside...

Anyway, for the black acrylic, check out sign marker in your yellow page. They have acrylic and other plastic in every color anyone can imagine. Also check with plastic places like USPlastics.com and others.

In addition, if you still have hard time getting them, post a message in WTB forum. I am sure some of us have scraps laying around in the garage somewhere.

Look in the yellow pages for plastic sheeting or plastic suppliers. I would strongly suggest you only use cast acrylic vs extruded. Most local guys will cut it to the sizes you need with a pretty good edge so you don't have to prep much. Then they'll just charge you by the sq. ft.

For background, I prefer a deep blue. Most of the pics you see and from personal experience, the distance in the background of most reefs are a dark deep blue vs black or bright blue. But, it all comes down to personal preference and I like dark blue.

Hope that helps some.
