Ok, now I think I have this completely understood. Thanks Greg!

PS. Fergy thinks I'm a little on the anal side. Maybe he is right. 8O

FWIW, I don't think you're anal at all. It's important to plan well and ask questions first. You've asked some very good questions. I found out about the pressure issue the hard way when I upgraded my system pump to a 1 hp model. Water began squirting from the top gasket of the reactor. The leaking water fried my pH controller. It was an expensive lesson. I wish I had asked your question of someone first. :)

I used to have similar problems with my calcium reactor ( a Geo Web model ) but I use a airline valve for the output adjustment, and I have noticed less problems when the drip rate is set a little higher, it seems more water going through there prevent it from clogging as much!! but sometimes still does...

Regarding Greg's point of the horsepower:

That's my problem, I've got SERIOUS pressure behind that 1/4" line. For example, last week a 1" hose popped off my manifold, shooting a fountain of water into the air, where it then bounced off the ceiling and all over the fishroom. It was kind of neat, had it not been in my house. Thank god for shop vacs.

Modo,

I ordered a second needle valve. That way a I can have very accurate control on both sides. I think UPS droped the valve at my house today. If so I'll install it tonight and see how it works over the weekend.

I think my real problem is I built a huge reacor that will go on a 300G in the future. It is on my 75G now and the through-put rate that I need is so minimal that it is hard to achieve. I'm trying to get it down to like a drop a second, maybe less. If I were trying to maintain a stream of flow, I think it would be much easier.

I gotcha. Let us know how it goes. How tall of a tube did you build your reactor with? I'm building mine with the 18" for a future 90g. Hope I don't see the same problem. If so you might be hearing from me.
