Hi to everybody,

I am new in this forum and I really need some help because I new in the world of Saltwater aquariums.

I have Saltwater aquarium from 4-5 weeks ago and it's working great, but the last week I got a new beautiful purple-white Sabella. And yestreday I sow the tentacular crowns on the sand. And I was in shock, but I see the worn moving inside the tube, so I have some questions:

Please tell me if my Sabella will die?
When the Sabella is growing the crowns fall off?
My sabella is sick? What I can do?

Please give a hand and thanks,

Yitzchak Rothman

Note: Sorry for my English.

Hi Yitzchak,

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm going to move a copy of this thread into the General Discussion Forum where you may get some more responses.

Hey Yitz,

This can be a normal occurance. The tentacles can grow back over the course of a few weeks. I've never had a Sabella lose its tentacles, but I have heard accounts of this happening several times in this forum. I have a Coco worm that has lost it's crown twice but has regrown them each time.

I do know this, it does have a greater chance of dying w/o its crown, however it might be wise to find the cause of the shedding crown, ie poor water quality, being picked at and so forth..fan worms/feather dusters shed their crown when stressed and if the stress continues it will die...

I had two lose their crowns at the exact same time- I had purchased them a few weeks apart. We were gone one weekend, and our burglar alarm went off for a long time (which is very loud and screetchy). All I can do is guess that this stressed them, as all my parameters were fine, and there seemed to be no other answer. Unfortunately they died a few days later. I tried another in the tank, it's been 6 weeks and he's A-Okay.
Good luck, and let us know the out come. Dawn.
