time for me to get a inline pump for my new tank and i will try my first poll :) this is going to be a circulation pump from the sump to the tank. i do not have a special room for my equipment so it has to go in my stand. so it has to be quiet and powerful and reliable.

what pump do you use and why? what pump would you buy now?

thanks for the ideas.

Iwaki's the pump of my choice for life (or until something better comes along). Nothing is quite as durable/reliable. They're also very respectable in every category ranging from noise to power to heat to efficiency.

I've had my Iwaki 40rxlt(american) running my 58g for over 5 years
but this last winter I came home to find it locked up.Out of necessity I had
Aquatic Tech rush me a QuietOne(trying to be more economical) and ran that before it burned out w/in 3 months. In the mean time I took apart the Iwaki to find a astrea snail locked in the impellars. It's again running like a
quiet champ in my livingroom.I'll buy an Iwaki again.BUT... did you see Champion lighting claims they have a senior engineer of Iwaki who designs their BlueLine pumps even better than Iwaki.Has anyone got/tried/or heard anything about these???

Hi there,

I'd like to know, if ya guys can get DELTEC pumps in America, from my experience they are much better than most of the pump on the list.

I voted for Iwaki.

Another thing to take into account is heat when considering a direct drive pump vs. a magnetic drive pump. The mag drive (especially Iwaki, as they are built to self cool) is always going to run significantly cooler than the direct drive in terms of heat transferred to the water being recirculated.

I got two Aqua Sea 4700’s (return pump and a close loop) running essentially continuously for 4 year without leak, or maintenance. They are quite, very powerful, efficient and don't heat my water much at all.
For a little more in price, I also have an Iwaki 100 (Skimmer pump for a PM Bullet XL2). The Iwaki 100 is not anywhere near as powerful as the Dolphin’s Aqua Sea 4700, and do heat my water up a little.

i buy mag pumps. thier cheap and very reliable. i have had 2 on my 90 reef for over 4 years with no problems at all. if you place them on a sponge they are very quiet, and i havent had any heat problems.
