So i get home today and see my tank temperature on the heater readout say 85.4 degrees. I was like holy crap! 8O I shut off the lights and put fans on the tank. Still the temp wouldnt fall. I felt the water, felt normal to me. STarted thinking maybe the heaters off because ive heard of them sticking on and messing up peopl;es tanks. So i ran out and bought a glass hydrometer. (Ive gone through like 3 of them now in the last 6 months, keep breaking) Put it in and it measures a hare under 80. I unplug the heater, plug it back in.....now it reads 82.8. WTF is going on here? should i talk to the manufacturer?

Is it one with a separate sensor or with the sensor on the end of the heating element? I have the latter, and they are very innaccurate. Get a nice digital read-out thermometer and rely on that.

There was a big thread on the reliability of the Pro version of these heaters; after reading that I put mine on a controller.

I would strongly suggest purchasing a separate digital thermometer as those heater readouts are notoriously inaccurate.

Best of luck.

ok, but what should i do with this one.....if it thinks the temp is that high, the heater wont kick on when it needs to

About two weeks ago my pro model went bonkers on me..guess the on switch got stuck..before I realized it, the water temp was over 100F. It killed just about everything in my tank..made my flasher wrasses jump out and die. I always thought it was a great idea...but an idea I do not trust at the moment.
