Weekly Discussion - Most expensive thing

Whats the most expensive thing, animal or equipment, that you ever bought for your tank? Was it worth it?

Probably my Litermeter pump.

YES it's worth it. I went on vacation last thanksgiving, and the roommate was supposed to add top off. (there were 5 full gallon jugs of RO water.) She didn't.

My 4 gallon mantis/frag tank had about 1.5 gallons in it, I lost everything. My manits, all 20 or so frags in the tank, and most of my LR bleached out.

My15 was down 2 inches from the normal water line. I lost some corals, my skimmer pump, and i got a cyano outbreak from it.

So all told, I figured I lost enought to buy two or three dosing pumps that would alleviate that problem from ever happening again. (and I kicked out the roommate)

The most expensive thing I bought was my canopy and stand. 1200 bucks. I didn't wann do it because it cut way into the tank budget, but my wife insisted. She is smart. The stand and canopym ake the tank look like furniture, instead of just a tank.

Here is a bad picture.

Litermeter for me as well. It even cost more than the planned Helfrichi's firefish pair for my 6 gallon tank.

Litermeter=320
Fish=225
Rest of the tank=400
Having a tank that costs almost 200 dollars per gallon....priceless.

And that's with free live rock and sand from somebody else's tank....

The tank, about $1200 as well, I think the custom made stand is expensive as hell too, but my selective memory tends to forget things as such that will make my stomach aches.

The selective memory is great when my wife confronts me asking how much I have spent on the hobby............."ugh.....Honey, I really don't quite remember, but I think it's only about $2000........"

I'd have to throw in a vote for the calcium reactor setup. I got pieces from a friend and helped build the reactor itself so the cost was minimal, but still significant. Its the BEST thing I've put on the tank for maintaining stability.

$900 on a custom 6' PFO hood (their prototype, even) which is currently sitting idle, along with the dual 250w and 400w ballasts it came with.

I would have to say my Skimmer (custom CS12-2 @ $900) and a close second would have to be the chiller. Skimmer is Okay, I think my Lifereef was better, but the chiller was worth every penny.
