A buddy of mine is interested in purchasing a chiller and was looking at the Fritz Micro chilller. Is this a good buy or not? He has a 26 gallon bowfront that sits by a window and needs to keep the heat from the window from dropping the temp in the tank while he is at work during the day. What else would some of you recommend?

hi.
How about closing the window so that the sun won't heat up the tank too much?

You may want to search on the chiller and see if anybody post any opinion about it on this board. For 26 gal, it is not difficult to find the right chiller for it.

For a 29 gallon, you might want to try using more evaporative cooling first. Add one or two more fans blowing across the surface and see if that helps your friend (it should). If the temp is still too high, then start looking at chillers.

The fritz micro chiller is a nice unit. It's a rather expensive method of cooling, but I have seen it run and it's a very nice, compact chiller that does the job.
