Hi.........I myself agree with Seamaiden but I would just purchase a few pounds of it to seed the less expensive Liverock. Thats what I did........however I never had to pay more than $8.00 a pound for cultured......and no more than $400 a pound for cured. I wish I could see that rock you are talkin about. For 20 bucks a pound it should be crawling around.LOL

Hwarang,

What store are you looking at?
I've seen the rock at LFSs in Mpls here and I've never seen anything that even comes close to what you can purchase from a decent retailer online. Take a look at Premium Aquatics (www.premiumaquatics.com). They can likely deliver in 1-day, so you don't even have to pay the overnight shipping charge. Discuss that with them, though. They will even try to get an idea of the type of pieces you want. Their rock is better than anything you can get locally and about 1/4 the cost.

Call them.

Trust me.

Sweet graham, thanks for the link! i will check them out for sure. I am totally not going to buy stuff retail here, except one nice chunk of the $19.99 stuff. The 15.99/lb was at world of fish in richfield and the 19.99 was at premeir pets in ramsey.

I did the Marine depot 44# for $150 shipped. Paid the extra $12 for express overnight.

Shapes are nice, my guess is that it is over 50#s but hard to call. The jury is still out on the color / life. JUST a little disapointed right now... I think.

I'll hold on final judgment untill the cleanup crew has done it's thing. The rock only went in on Friday, 2 Crabs and 2 snails were already in the tank, they survived the weekend so added another 6 crabs and I'll toss in some more snails.... blah blah blah.

$19 / # is CRAZY you want even the junkiest base rock will look decent in 6 months. I have a rock in my 1st tank that was bought dry on a store shelf 8 months ago and now it is COVERED in coriline. Looks like it came right from Figi.

I noticed that your from Minneapolis? If yes, where are you paying 19.99??????

Try something fishy in Richfield or a world of fish also in Richfield, they are about a block from each other. Depending on how much your buying I ordered all of mine online. The curing kinda sucks, but otherwise you get a good quality for a good price.

Since my tank is going up later this week, if I order the LR online and plop it in there, will it stink up the house while it cures? My wife is like "you can't even stand the smell of the cat's litter box, let alone smelly LR while it cures!!"

Sometimes it does not smell good. At least when you give it the "nose" test (a way to decide how cured it is, is to smell it... in the air) I have yet to hear of LR curing actually stinking up a house.

Actually the stuff I got at MD didn't stink too bad at all.

ummm.....I got LR that was not cured and yes it did stink up the entire living room. I only did 100#'s uncured and 200#'s cured. There was definately a foul odor for a few weeks.

YOu can get some really nice stuff in SD and INland empire for about $1.00 to about 5.99 lb. I did some searching on the net and drove to the 909 area code and got some nice rock for about 1.85 lb. Full of coraline, sponges, and polyp growth. www.aquacon.com is a nice place to look at prices as well. Though not as cheap as liveaquaria.com the pictures look like top quality
