dark spot in my DSB

i have a 29g nano tank which has been running for almost 2 years now. this week i´ve been noticing that the tank is strange and so i found this large dark spot in my DSB. do you know what is it?
PS: i´ve also noticed that my pH is very high, ending the day above 8.6.

I think that's pretty normal for a mature DSB. The lower levels of my sand bed are very dark and unsightly.

all the tank is looking odd. my blennie died last week and my caulastrea died yesterday. i really don´t know what caused this, but ipve already done a 20% water change today and will perform another one tomorrow

well,
it really seems that all the problems that have been taking place in my tank is because of this f***ing spot. the fishes are with a white yey and my clown was almost dead, so i took him to a friend of mine. the corals are all ugly and the other fishes are with taquipneia. i´ve already increased the flow in this spot so the aneorobios die

Why not just scoop the whole spot out entirely and throw it away... I don't see how it could hurt anymore than leaving it in. I hope your tank recovers.

i fear that, if i remove the spot, all the products of the anaerobios will come out at suddenly and the results would be a disaster.

Sounds like your tank is near a disaster anyway... what I would do is make up about 30g of new water in a rubber maid trash can, or whatever will hold that amount and is fish friendly, dilute it 50% with water from your tank and put all the stuff thats still alive in there (acclimate them to it of course). Then scoop out that bad stuff and let your tank cycle for a week or so. Then move everything back in. Drastic times call for drastic measures... Hope whatever you do works out! I'd hate to see a good reef die .
