My 120 has 1 400W mogul radium halide, flanked by 2 250W DE 10K fixtures. Our house has no AC, but I figured the basement sump would be enough to keep the temps down. This is the first summer for the set-up, and it is working pretty well, although I do see some fluctuations.

2 days ago the temps in the tank went up to 83.4. No big deal. The next day it was hotter, and as an experiment I left off the 400W mogul. The temp barely made it to 80! Prett big diff on a system that has almost 200 gallons of water. So, I'm thinking the closed DE fixtures impart a lot less heat to the water.

You might also try adding some additional ventillation to the hood. I've got an open-backed hood w/ a single 250 watt Iwasaki in it and I'm amazed at how warm the air is inside it even w/ a 60 CFM blowing into the hood.

Old pic, but here's how it looked 2 years ago:

Next tank is going w/ strictly pendants.

Yeah, I have an open back and top with fan. I think I'm fine as is, just making an observation....
