This is a new system, with a new CS6-2 skimmer. The tank still has much cloudiness from the sand. I've never used this brand of skimmer before.
Anyway, with the water level on the skimmer set to the lowest setting, the thing just bubbles over immediately. Is this due to the silt still in the water colum? Is there a flow setting on the pump that I've missed? My only recourse right now is to either stuff some paper towel down the air intake tube (which renders the skimmer useless) or take the lid off and just let it overflow.
Any advice?

what is the water depth the skimmer is sitting in? there are no valves, no screws no nothing. A simple adjustable riser pipe makes "dialing up" a foam level a snap. Want wet foam because you just cleaned the algae off the glass? Raise the pipe up a bit.. Adding new water, food, live rock, resins etc., which often make a protein skimmer go nuts!!?? Just lower the pipe a bit.

The level of the water that the skimmer is sitting in is just below that of the LOWEST setting of the pipe. With the pipe at the lowest setting, it's still bubbling over!

Give it a day or two, it should calm down. Silt in the WC would be my reasoning.

Push the overflow tube down as far as it will go and if this still does not help, turn it off. I don't usually run skimmers for the first week or two when setting up a new system.

I just got a Euroreef two weeks ago and had the same problem on a 2 year old system. The skimmer is going through it's break in period. A good tip to speed up the process is to completely take off the riser tube for the first day or so.

Jim,

My Euroreef did the same thing when put on an older system. It will calm down. On a new system, I would let the tank itself calm down a little before running the Euroreef.

You've probably figured this out by now, but covering up the air intake will make it overflow even more!

If its just below the lowest setting on the exit pipe, it might be too high. With euroreefs and g-series skimmers I normally run the water level a couple inches over the to of the elbow on the sedra. How many inches of water is the skimmer sitting in?
