I want to setup a 55gal Fish only with live rock and deep sand bed.
What is the minimum requirement for lighting this tank?
Thanks for all the help.

The lighting in most cases (with some exceptions) doesn't matter to fish. Keep it fairly bright during the day for species that are nearer the surface (like those on reef crests).... but don't overpower things or you will have algae issues since the fish produce a good deal of waste.

The one exception I can think of right off is tangs and surgeons. There are strong correlations with HLL (head and lateral line disease) that suggest intense lighting is needed to keep them healthy, although I have heard people saying they are fine if fed 90% vegetative material ad libidum too.

So, in general, it doesn't matter much, just enough to see the fish well...
