Hi Mnemic and

:P

Chip, talk to Fergy on #reefs about skimmers. He's built some big 'uns for MaryHM in the past IIRC. He can help you out. :)

Bumped...I would like to run carbon on this system, and was wondering what type of filter could handle such an amount of water.

any canister filter should work fine, there's also some nice inline setups, however, you want low gph through carbon, not fast, so keep that in mind.

also you really shouldnt need that much, I used a duetto on my 220g, keeping things in perspective, a mag350 would be the right size if I had a 1000g, however the mag350 flows way way too fast.

Are you going to run an open and a closed system? If you have the room you could run the chiller and UV, if desired, on the higher GPM closed system, possibly with a canister filter in line as well, and the open system can do all of your carbon and skimming filtration at a slower rate.

Fish only or reef? I am setting up a 900 gallon reef. I am using a uv sterilizer part-time a GEO skimmer 550 lbs of live rock and a 300 gallon sump with lots of sand and rubble. The system has been running for 2 months now and the only problem I didn't forsee is heat (1000watt lights). So, I added a 2hp chiller. I have filter socks that I am using only during initiation.

Hope that helps

Soooo...say one or two Fluval 400s for a 1,000 gallon system would be okay for running carbon?

I was also thinking of getting an Aqua-C EV-1000 for the skimmer.

Thanks much.

Peace,

Chip

AquaC makes a great skimmer. I have an EV180 and love it... when i do my 300+g system i am gonna put a bigger EV on my next project

Hi all,

I have got a 20g nano i have started. bad thing for me is that it sits in my loft. all the heat from the house goes there.....

soooooo, AquaMedic makes a little inline chiller i am really interested in... It is a thermo-electric.. and is rated for no more that 30g...

it is the plumbing i am worried about. i was thinking of either using a maxi-jet to run the thing, or using a canister filter (eheim or filstar). the only reason i would use a canister is to act as a micron screen for the chiller.... not really needed for carbon or anything.... unless you think i should..

here is the break down on the syteem

20g glass tank
24lbs of LR
35lbs of L/S about 4"

two maxi-jet 1200's and an eheim liberty 200 filter with chemi-pure and poly filter.

i also goint ot pick up a new light system from CSL - http://www.customsealife.com/f_powercom ... n-lite.htm

I am gonna get the 24".

let me know

If you have the room you could plumb a small pool canister filter inline and modify it to hold carbon.

Meh...I'm not really big on modification. I like plug-n-play. :)

1 prizm skimmer is all you will need. It might be a little too strong though.
