I used it for a while but didn`t notice any help with my corals so I stopped.I`ve read it`s beneficial if you run a refugium with macro like Caulerpa.

paats did a sensible thing by stopping after awhile. BTW, Caulerpa can do very well (just talk to people who got the algae problem) even without any iron dosing. Go figures.

I'm not a user of really any supplement except the 2-part Bionic stuff and now a Calc Reactor.

What exactly is this Liquid Iron suppose to help with? What could possibly be in a reef tank that would need supplemental Iron?

Just curious is all.

Liquid Nail is a glue, and Liquid Iron is a spray that you applies to clothing so it will remain winkle-free.... <jk>

Seriously, some macroalgae have higher-than-NSW concentration of iron, and so as a marketing ploy, they come up with a iron supplement that is slightly better than a rusting-nail-in-the-sump thingie that suppose to help with these issue.

Sorry for being so cynical, but IMO, if you can't test the ionic concentration, and don't understand why you tank needs it, it is better to stick with regular water change instead of dosing this and dosing that.

Back on the poster's question.

1, good point is that you are helping the aquarium trade, and feel better that you are doing something to your tank.

2, there is no bad point other than that you are wasting money, IMHO.

I dose about 1 drop each week in my 90gal and 2 drops weekly in my 210gal for the caulerpa. Don't know if it really helps, but I've never had a crash or any issues with the algea in almost 2 years. I still have 1/2 the bottle I bought 2 years ago. It's the only additive I use other then kalk regularly and buffer when needed...

Iron dosing for the caulerpa is really not needed at all. It is especially bad when you have no way of monitoring if you have over dosed your tank. You don't even know what's in the product or if it's just brown sugar water.

If you can't test for it, don't add it. I've maintained tanks full of caulerpa and other macros (150G + 75G sump/refugium) without any iron additives, and I do not have any caulerpa crashes after using 24hr lighting for the sump/refugium.

Dosing iron is like dosing I2, debatible, but at least you can test for Iodine concentratioin, but can't do the same for iron yet.

To back up Danm's point with a personal observation, I have a tank running for 3 yrs without water change, no additive other than ca rxtor, and I prayed every night for my pesty Caulerpa to crash.

My prayer has not been answered, and there is no rusting nail in the sump.

Yea i would have to say I never dose iron and my macro grows like weeds....



TDS on my ro/di is never higher then 3.... I also does kalkwasser and they say that causes metal to precipricate out of the soltion... IF i dont clean the tub it will build up a darker film on the bottom over time....

You forgot to mention liquid paper, and liquid bandages. Last week I was shopping with a friend at a department store, and saw new product from Japan - liquid stocking. It's a spray Japanese use to apply on their legs that would last for a few hours. Heh, I guess the spray paint got new uses now..........
