My PH is hovering aroung 7.90 in the AM and tops out at 8.05 or so in the PM. I took water outside and aerated it to verify that I have CO2 problem. My house is brand new and I was smart enough to install a air intake from outside as part of my heating/AC unit. So now I need to fix the problem. Here is my setup...

I have a built-in 180 in my great room with a built in canopy on top. The tank is sealed on top as the canopy covers all 4 sides of the tank. I do have an exhaust fan blowing air out of the canopy through the attic, outside. I believe I may have stale air at the surface of this tank and little fresh air gets to the water line as canopy encompasses entire top of tank.

I have a 125 tank as a sump in the basement, in a 10x10 fishroom. It has a standard all glass canopy on it.

I noticed last week that the heat/ac vent runs right across the top of my fish room, so I proceeded to cut a hole in the duct and instantly now have fresh outside air entering the fish room ( I turned on the furnace fan 7x24).

After 3 days, my PH is still 7.90 in the AM. Using a pinpoint monitor that is calibrated and verified calibration with borax mix.

Is my real problem the tank upstairs not getting fresh air mixed at the surface due to the canopy enclosed on all four sides? I assume after 3 days of fresh air entering my fish room that the PH would have risen, but it has not.

I could attach a flex pvc from my duct in the basement, and run a fresh air line up to the inside of the canopy, providing fresh air to the water line on that tank. Should this be my next step? Also, if I do thios, when the furnace kicks on, I will also get heat entering the canopy from the furnace. Other than the obvious heat problem, will this cause other problems with a heat duct inside the canopy? I do have the exhaust running to the outside, so the canopy should stay at an ambient tempature...

any suggestions?????
