Yes you can, not always advisable though - some can pack a powerful sting (most of these arent sold regularly) and carpets are VERY sticky - like flypaper. I would handle them as little as possible and try not to touch the tentacles as this will often cause them to fire their pneuma/nematocysts/whatever and I imagine this takes energy and could stress the animal somewhat.
What kind of anemone is it and I can give you better advice on placement / handling.
I always put on latex gloves whenever I have to handle my s. gigantea. It's quite the sticky little beast. Actually it's not that little either--about 18" of fish-catching, arm-stinging oral disc. 8O
I think the best part of that photo is the tang in the tank looking at me. You can almost hear him thinking, "What the hell is he going to do with that hand?!"
Yeah, I'm old school--it's a hang on overflow. I have to shut it down and clean the algae out of the U-tube every 6 months or so. I just keep an eye on it and as the flow slows down, I know it's time to get out the brush. Otherwise it's been running for about 6 yrs now with no problems at all.
Sharkky How do you work on that tank? The stand looks huge, I just built a 40" Stand and after the 27" h tank is on it I think I am going to need a stool. DO you use a stool or something?
When I built the canopy this summer (the canopy and stand are all hand-built by yours truly), I built it so that the front face is angled down. When I lift the lids, there's only about a 2 inch lip above the actual edge of the tank. Works wonders! I can reach all the way to the bottom of the tank and never get my sleeve wet!
