Hey gang,
I am preparing to jump back in after a 10 year hiatus. Have done a fair amount of research and am heading in this direction;
Tank - TruVu 125H (60x18x24)
Lighting - IceCap VHO retro (60", 4 bulbs, 540W, 660 Ballast). Current thinking is two actinic blues, one Aquasun (ish), one actinic white.
Sump - ETSS Evolution UHF-Pro48
Pump - ? (ideas?) Currently looking at Custom Sea Life Velocity
Skimmer - ETSS Evolution 500 (w/ CAP 5000 pump)
Power Heads - MaxiJet 1200 x2 (enough?)
LR/LS - Tampa Bay Saltwater - 'The Package'
RO/DI - AquaFX Barracuda
misc - GFCI, heater, IceCap digital timer, etc.
Basic reef, no SPS. I have perused my LFS's and am less than impressed. Any recommendations on best on-line resources for dry goods purchase(s) (especially the TruVu)?
TIA,
G

I use Premium Aquatics for most dry goods, and Marine Depot also. Click on the "sponsors" link at the top of this page for their addresses.

I don't think its cost effective to buy an aquarium mail order. I never heard of anyone doing it, unless it was a custom tank. If you don't like your LFS I would call around to find a nice one. An hour or two drive will be a lot cheaper than shipping a tank.

I don't know truview, I guess you can contact them for dealers...

I have never heard of TruVu.

Go with the biggest tank you have room for and can afford. The longer the tank, the better since you get more swimming room for your fish and better surface area. :D

TruVu is a GREAT acrylic...I have one.
I've been extremely happy with my OceanRunner Pump. Depending on your setup I would suggest anywhere from their OR3500 - OR6500. I was quite impressed with their low power consuption, high-output and low heat transfer.
Once again depending on what you plan on placing in the tank, 2 1200's may not work. You might need 4 (2 on each side) I bought my OceanRunner and my MaxiJets at customaquatics and am extremely happy with both their products and thier service. I have also purchased at marinedepot and have been satisfied with thier service as well.
My heater is an Ebo-Jager, but I would imagine there are better heaters out there for your tank size. (titanium)

Good Luck on your setup, and Welcome back.

I would suggest you look into Tenecor for tanks as well.
I just got done installing one, and I have 3 things to say

1 exellent work
2 beautiful tanks
3 easy to install

If you upgrade and get the reef ready system,
all you need to do is add water
all pumps and fittings are included

Welcome to reefs.org!

I also would recommend looking into a myreef.com skimmer. They are very good and cost effective!
