I am not 100% sure, but it looks like it is expelling zoox. out... is there a temperature or other shock?

What are your water parameters? salinity, calcium, alkalinity, temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH? It looks like it's spewing its zooxanthellae.

I thought they just did that from time to time, kinda like taking a dump, whenever mine would do that it would allways pump up super huge again :?

or have my LFS been telling me lies again?

No, it's a stress induced phenomenon. More than likely it's puffing after it does this because it's trying to expose as much of its surface area to light because of the reduced amount of zooxanthellae in its tissue. Puffing up doesn't necessarily equate with a "happy" coral.

What's your LFS been telling you?

It's expelling zoo, like the answers above.

LPS do this to control it's zooanthellea (sp?) algae within tissue. Have you recently acquired this guy?

Most do this if there is a shift in light intensity IME. Have you run or exchanged carbon? This could clear the water so the coral is recieving a higher amount of light.

Have you moved the height of your lighting, changed bulbs, added bulbs, moved the coral to a new location, changed LR locations above so it's not as shaded as before? All of these can affect the amount of light the coral is recieving. Then the coral doesn't need as much zoo to produce the amount of food it needs. So, the coral expels this.

They can also just do this time to time. But, if your other corals are looking puny then definately check your parms and report back. If you still aren't comfortable then do a water change and see what happens.

Hi Shane, well they told me it was taking a dump, and that it will just do it sometimes. Last time i ever ask them a question.

It can be a bad thing or it can be a normal thing. Corals will expel like 6%-10% of there zozanthalle DAILY. This is the zoozanthalle cells that are dead, dying or no longer productive. This is according to Eric Bournemen in his book "Corals".

Or, it can be a reaction to stress and a bad thing.

the zoox. are growing much faster than the coral, and the coral must get rid of the zoox. periodically just like mowing one's lawn, or rather selection some cattle to be slaughtered.
