also check cooking stores...they have nice onces with two probes, temperature alarms, etc. i prefer these as the probe is a lot more durable than the indoor/outdoor type. they are only weather resistant.
i got one for 14 bucks at target but knocked it into the tank
I spent $8 on a cheap indoor/outdoor digital thermometer. It has a sensor end with a long wire. Idea is that you stick that on a window and then you can get the inside temp and outside temp. I sealed the sensor in a big blob of silicone and dropped it in my sump. Now I've got a nice digital thermometer that's accurate to the tenth of a degree.
Sorry to disappoint you, but Sharkky, you need to pay a lot more than $8 to get accuracy of 1/10 of a degree out of it.... but for our purpose, it is more than sufficient.
I figure it's pretty accurate, as the 'inside' temp (what it measures as room temp) is always spot-on with my atomic clock's thermometer across the room and the $120 electronic thermostat that runs my HVAC system.
But yeah I know I'm not expecting miracles out of it, but it's certainly more accurate than a little strip of plastic stuck to the outside of the tank, eh?
