how to stop bubbles from a powerhead

My Hagen powerheads are well below the surface and I have this problem with or without a skimmer. The only thing I can think of is that maybe I am getting bubbles from cyano or other algae that are accumulating in the intake of these powerheads - kinda like a slow moving alka selzer. Beat the heck out of me but it is a PIA.

I have four 402's and they all spit micro bublles at similar intervals (15 secs or so) do get the micros in the system for my prizm skim (little but they are present). I have mine slightly tilted to get proper flow to all areas,never thought of the angle problem before thanks for the tip.
